Taylor Swift Tops Even Michael Jackson at American Music Awards

Kanye West might have a problem with it, but this is definitely Taylor Swift's year.

The 19-year-old twanger pocketed a leading five prizes, including the biggest, Artist of the Year, at Sunday's American Music Awards, while Michael Jackson made some history from beyond the grave.

The late King of Pop won four posthumous awards—including Favorite Pop/Rock Artist and Pop/Rock Album for his 2003 greatest hits set, Number Ones—bringing his AMA career total to 25.

In a night win neither of the top winners were present (Jackson for obvious reasons; Swift was in London rehearsing for a show at Wembley Arena), the Los Angeles cemerony was marked by a couple of outrageous performances (thank you, Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga) and welcome comebacks by Rihanna and Whitney Houston. But in the end, the ghost of Jackson was the night's most compelling presence.

"We love you, Michael," said a sequined-glove-sporting Jermaine Jackson who accepted the honor on his brother's behalf. "It's not just about the winnings, the awards, it's mainly the message. The message that Michael had will live on forever...and he saw good in everyone and he wanted them to do good.  To start with love and let's love each other."

Sister Janet kicked things off with a medley of her hits. Even Swift, who accepted her Artist of the Year award (without interruption) live via satellite, paid tribute to Michael, whom she beat.

Adam Lambert: For Your Entertainment—Or His?

Adam Lambert Matt Sayles/AP Photo

Adam Lambert is fully embracing his new solo career—as well as his keyboard player, too.

The American Idol runner-up gave the final performance at the 2009 American Music Awards, and he delivered much of what earlier outings by Janet Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Lady Gaga and others had: Lots of back-up dancers, a stumble or two and just a bit of raunchiness.

OK, in Lambert's case, there was more than a bit of racy material as he mixed together a so-so song, some S&M imagery and a bit of simulated sex. Oh, and that juicy mid-song kiss, too.

For your entertainment, of course. Was it enough to make his performance the best of the evening?

New Moon Makes a Lot of Money (But Not Quite Batman Money)

It was big. It was bigger than expected. It was record-setting. But more on the new Sandra Bullock movie later.

New Moon will close out its remarkable debut weekend with an estimated $140.7 million, its studio reported today.

"I dare say in all the office pools, I don't think anyone had near this top gross," Summit Entertainment distribution president Richie Fay said.

The towering take makes the Twilight sequel the third-biggest opener in Hollywood history. Or, to put it in a way that will appease vampire-dismissing superhero boosters: Yes, The Dark Knight's opening-weekend mark is safe; and, yes, Spider-Man 3's second-place slot is secure.

But, get over your spandex-supporting selves because New Moon sucked up its own share of records:

Courteney Cox's "Family Matter" Shuts Down Cougar Town

Courteney Cox Ray Tamarra/Getty Images

Cougar Town fans are waiting with bated breath to find out if Jules Cobb can lock down a younger man. But some real-life drama involving star Courteney Cox is going to keep that cliffhanger hanging a little longer.

"We can confirm production on Cougar Town has been temporarily shut down in order for Courteney to deal with a private family matter," ABC said in a statement Saturday.

A network rep declined to elaborate, and there was no immediate word on the nature of the problem from Cox's personal publicist.

Jon (Plus Flowers) & Kate Reunite to Put Finishing Touches on Divorce

Jon Gosselin, Kate Gosselin Brad Barket/Getty Images

Jon Gosselin came bearing gifts. He left one giant step closer to losing a wife.

The artists otherwise known as Jon & Kate met face to face at a Pennsylvania law office on Saturday for a daylong arbitration meeting to essentially put a stake in their marriage.

Sources close to TLC's former fun couple say that the Gosselins closed in on finalizing custody arrangements for the eight and the division of assets. Jon even showed up with a bouquet of roses at the start of the meeting as a symbol of his newfound commitment to make things right.

But while Kate seemed amenable to the terms of their divorce, she left sans flowers.

The final episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 (at least as we know it) airs Monday. Their marriage could be over before the new year.

New Moon Poll: For Fanatics Only

New Moon, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Summit Entertainment

We know the box office for New Moon is going through the roof like a werewolf chasing a vampire bat or something, so obviously fans are digging it. Reviewers, of course, not so much.

But taking a cue from our modular review of New Moon, we've decided to do a poll for Twilight saga fanatics only.

So take the poll below and sound off in the comments section. (Note: We'll have another poll later for people who are barf-bucket sick of all these suckers, so store up that vitriol!)

Were Miley and Selena Told to Diss New Moon?

More from Ask the Answer Bitch

Why are people so up in arms about the comments Miley Cyrus made about not liking Twilight? I'm sure there are plenty more people out there that don't care for it either.
—LeAnn, via Facebook

Miley Cyrus—and fellow Disney pixie Selena Gomez—sure do dislike themselves some Twilight, yes they do. Miley told a radio station this week: "It's a cult. I don't believe in it." And Gomez then confided in Bonnie Hunt that when it comes to the Saga flicks, "I don't watch them."

Which is odd, because just this past June, she was asked about Twilight and said: "It was good. It was really good."

Hmmm.

What people are wondering here is whether Miley, and now Taylor Lautner's punkinhead of an ex, were compelled to say nasty things. Because no teenager is allowed to hate Edward Cullen. It is the Tween Code, and it must never be rent asunder. So, people assume, something sinister must be going on, and by "sinister," people suspect "Disney." Did the Mouse have a hand in this?

Michael Jackson's Moonwalk Glove Sells for 350K

Buying a pair of gloves for the winter: $19.99.

Owning Michael Jackson's infamous moonwalk glove: priceless $350,000 plus tax.

The King of Pop's rhinestone-studded white glove fetched that whopping price at a New York auction on Saturday.

The iconic accessory became the late star's signature after he wore it while moonwalking through "Billie Jean" at Motown's 25th anniversary TV special in 1983.

So who was the lucky (and well-heeled) bidder?

Hong Kong native Hoffman Ma, who after taxes, will pay $420,000 for the "Thriller" crooner's glove—a price, the 36-year-old winner said, was a bargain.

Ma purchased the glove on behalf of the Ponte 16 Resort Hotel in Macau.

New Moon Eclipses Dark Knight!

New Moon teaser Poster, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart Summit Entertainment

As a PG-rated Robin might cry, "Holy crap, Batman!"

New Moon smashed The Dark Knight's single-day and opening-day box-office records with an estimated $72.7 million Friday, its studio reported today.

If the movie's unprecedented midnight business was "absolutely freakish," then its unprecedented full-day take was simply phenomenal.

"It doubled the opening day of the first movie—and Twilight was no slouch itself," Box Office Mojo's Brandon Gray said. "It's just sensational."

With New Moon having already eclipsed its $50 million budget, two of Dark Knight's showiest records, and Twilight's entire opening-weekend gross, about the only question left is: How big can this thing get?

Rob, Kristen and Taylor's Best Talk Show Moments

Loading...

Happy New Moon weekend, everyone! We gotta hand it to Rob, Kristen and Taylor, they all worked so hard over the past month to promote their little vampire movie, which culminated last night in a three-way (pre-taped) interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Now they can all go back to their normal lives. For Taylor that means pumping iron and practicing back flips all day, while Rob and Kristen lurk around the shadows of Chateau Marmont.

But before we say goodbye to the gang until they resurface for Eclipse this summer, we thought we'd put together our favorite moments from the past week's talk show appearances. (And there were a lot of them—Ellen, Conan, Leno, Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Today, Regis and Kelly.)

Usually they’re met with the same questions: Did you ever expect this to be so big? How is this movie different from the last? OMG, fans are so crazy, right? They scream so much! How did you bulk up to play Jacob Black? Are you dating Kristen? What do you think of your Barbie? Will you throw this football? (Both Taylor and Kristen had to do that, btw.)

Still, there were some fun moments to be had and we've compiled them all right here just in case you fell asleep while Taylor talked about his workout regime for the 13th time.

Let's see what we got:

Jennifer Aniston Spied With Fries

Jennifer Aniston Flynet

Jennifer Aniston hit her favorite Hollywood hot spot this week, the bar at the Sunset Tower Hotel, where she met up with a male friend for—gasp!—french fries!

Wearing jeans, a tank top and a scarf, the svelte actress ordered regular fries while her male companion opted for the truffle ones. "She was dressed cool and looked very cute," an eyewitness tells E! News "It looked like a friendly meeting, nothing romantic."

Aw, nice to know Jen really is a normal gal after all, even when the cameras are off, and especially when the mags are laden with "Stars Eat Like Us!" spreads full of pin-thin chicks sipping milkshakes for the paparazzi.
